カプワニ・キワンガ
周縁化された歴史について、それらの背景にある構造や象徴的な物事を強調する作品を制作します。出展作は、大西洋の奴隷貿易に関する作品です。当時は、人々が布に様々なマークを描き、逃亡する奴隷に危険や安全を知らせていました。本作に描かれた黒い四角は安全に休息できる場所を意味しています。また、布はそうした記憶を想起させる大西洋の海水と顔料で染色されています。
Kapwani Kiwanga
Kiwanga creates art that highlights marginalized parts of history and the structural and symbolic factors behind it. She exhibits artwork about the slave trade across the Atlantic Ocean. At that time, people drew various motifs on cloth to warn escaped slaves of danger and ensure their safety. The black square indicates a place of safety and rest. The cloth was dyed using seawater from the Atlantic Ocean and pigment to remind people of the facts of history.
