渡辺志桜里
渡辺志桜里の《RED》は、国策として種の延命がなされた絶滅危惧種のある鳥の骨から、科学捜査などで用いられる復顔法により元の生き物の再現を試みた作品です。私たちが自然として捉えているものの背景には、実は在来種や外来種といった人為的な選択が含まれていたり、絶滅危惧種という概念を含め、象徴性として規定されたものもあるのではないでしょうか。また、復顔法において再現されるものも、精度が上がっているとはいえど、制作者のイメージに委ねられ、それは必ずしも事実と一致するわけではありません。
同作は、自然概念の曖昧さと復顔法における不確かさの重なりを手探りし、当たり前のように思っているものごとに対して多様な角度から解釈することの必要性と、そこから拡がる新しい可能性について問いかけます。

In her work, RED, Shiori Watanabe utilizes the bones of an endangered bird that was preserved as part of national conservation efforts to recreate the original creature, employing a facial reconstruction technique commonly used in forensic investigations.
This work questions the anthropogenic choices behind what we perceive as nature, including the distinction between native and invasive species, using them as symbols, and the concept of endangered species.
Moreover, even though the accuracy of facial reconstructions has improved, they are still subject to the creator’s interpretations and may not necessarily align with fact.
The work emphasizes the ambiguity of the natural concept and the uncertainty in facial reconstruction methods, exploring the necessity of interpreting commonplace things from various angles and the new possibilities that arise from these interpretations.
